Opened in August of 2022 Haven Memory Care of Athens became the area’s only exclusively dedicated memory care community. Born out of this community was not only the creation of Northeast Georgia’s standard in memory care but Northeast Georgia’s premier hub for training and memory care education. We know care is the foundation for being the standard in the community but we also know that critical to the best care is having the most up to date training and education available. We not only apply this knowledge, we share it with our partners in memory care throughout Northeast Georgia. Although some may consider this helping our competition we look at it as helping our partners with the challenges of dementia. At the end of the day, we are all in this together, we are all touched by this part of life by someone we know and love. The more support we all have as humanity, the better life is for all of those affected.
The owner’s philosophy of care results in Haven Memory Care having the highest trained staff in the area. As important however, is the compassion necessary to give each resident a quality of life that is equal to that of family members and isn’t that what you’re looking for? We would have it no other way. Our level of care is based on acuity not the state mandated ratio. Unfortunately we have seen too often facilities staffing for their residents based on minimal state standards of care based on a ratio of caretaker to resident. In actuality, more important is the personal need of the resident and that’s how we determine our staffing ratios and this method always exceeds the state minimum standard. To keep up with the latest in dementia care we have a dedicated research department that is constantly researching the latest techniques in care as well as clinical revelations that may arise. We have partnered with Teepa Snow, one of the nation’s leading educators on memory care.

Our mission, unlike all others, is not driven by profit. Our mission is to serve our treasured population with the best care, married with the most up to date training in the field of memory care. We believe if we are helping families and seniors during this challenging time and we’re making a difference in their lives, finances will not have to drive our mission. Staff
At Haven Memory Care we know our staff is the foundation of our care and success. They are highly trained and their compensation is above their peers in the industry. However, none of that is as important as their genuine love for the residents and this industry as a whole. A brand new building with the highest paid staff does not assure you the best care for your loved ones. Only a caring staff achieves this. This “genuine care” is something that can’t be faked or imitated, you will see it as innate when you are in our community.
Training
As mentioned the owner, a registered nurse, and the DOH are both certified educators by the State of Georgia. Their passion is teaching and this benefits each staff member as well as those they are being trained to care for. In addition, Haven Memory Care has a dedicated research department that stays up to date with the latest in dementia related treatment and care. This department not only helps educate the staff but it also informs the families and loved ones of the diagnosed. The department will share videos you can listen to while driving that will help you understand and deal with unique challenges that come with this diagnosis.

Being locally owned and smaller in size allows for more personal and flexible care. As a physician assistant I have seen a lot of long term care facilities and this is definitely one of the best.
